A Recap Of The 2024-25 NFL Regular Season
The AFC and NFC South Divisions were underwhelming as always. Sam Darnold and Jayden Daniels were not, though.
Historically known as one of the worst franchises in the NFL, the Detroit Lions have had a rough past, going 0-16 in 2008 and winning only .415% of their games over their over 90 years of existence.
But this year was different. Very different.
This season, the Lions finished 15-2, setting a franchise record for yards, points, touchdowns, and of course, wins.
Pro Bowl QB Jared Goff threw for over 4,000 yards for the third consecutive season and tossed a career high 37 touchdowns to power Detroit’s high octane offense. Complementing Goff was Pro Bowl RB Jahmyr Gibbs, who scored an NFL best 16 touchdowns.
On the defensive side of the ball, Detroit garnered 16 interceptions (T-3rd in the NFL), 87 QB hurries (1st in the NFL), and only allowed 342 points (7th in the NFL) in a fairly successful season considering that they placed 6 defensive starters on Injured Reserve throughout the season.
Here are 4 other storylines from 2024-25 NFL Regular Season:
SAM DARNOLD SHINES
As the starting QB for the Minnesota Vikings this season, Sam Darnold threw 12 interceptions, a mark that was only one fewer than his 2021 interception total with the Carolina Panthers.
But instead of subsequently accounting for 9 touchdowns and leading his team to a top draft pick, Darnold astonishingly accounted for 35 touchdowns and led the Vikings to a historic 14 win season.
He was named to his first ever Pro Bowl and was also the NFC Offensive Player of the Month in September.
I guess he is no longer seeing ghosts.
KANSAS CITY’S UNUSUALLY FANTASTIC SEASON
This season for the Kansas City Chiefs, Patrick Mahomes missed the Pro Bowl, Travis Kelce had the least amount of receiving yards in his career, WR1 Rashee Rice only played in 4 games, and RB1 Isiah Pacheco only played in 5 games. The Chiefs also played in 11 one score games, were in the bottom half in the league in sacks and passing yards allowed, and had a worse turnover differential than the Chicago Bears.
But the Chiefs also won a league best 15 games, going 8-0 against the NFC South and AFC North.
Strange, right?
JAYDEN DANIELS
Hours before being drafted by the Commanders in April 2024, NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that Jayden Daniels preferred to be drafted by a franchise outside of Washington, DC.
Based on the historical season Daniels recently had for Washington, it appears that Schefter’s report was inaccurate.
Daniels broke or tied the NFL’s rookie records for single game and season completion percentages, rushing yards, and touchdowns in the 4th quarter in the 2024-2025 NFL regular season. He will likely win the prestigious Offensive Rookie of the Year award in early February, too.
Most impressively, he led the Commanders to a 12-5 record and the team’s first playoff appearance in 4 years. He will likely lead the team to many more playoff appearances in the future.
And oh yeah, he did this too:
THE JETS
Vegas set the O/U win total for the New York Jets at 9.5 wins this season.
The Jets smashed the under. Again.
For the ninth consecutive season, the Jets finished below .500, a streak that has prevented the team from making the playoffs in the last 14 years.
I guess JETS stands for Just End The Season.
